This was quite a day - photographing Ryan Giggs, who was opening the first phase of new facilities at the East Cheshire Hospice in Macclesfield. But if I was impressed (and I was) that was nothing to how little Josh felt, meeting his hero. I think the pictures tell the story.

To the Manchester Academy yesterday, to photograph 6th form students preparing for the Exodus Festival 2009, this year part of the Manchester International Festival, which is currently lighting up the City . Energy, smiles, design flair - all the ingredients were there.

walk in the park
Not only did we have a walk, but trees were climbed, a rugby ball was given some serious welly, and a den was found in a HUGE old tree trunk - and the baby slept through most of it! A sit down on a bench for a rest gave us a shot, which, translated to black and white, will is to be in pride of place in the (black and white) living room. Some of the others from the day will be printed and stretched onto canvas for the new extension.

abby at the disco
This little sweetie was with her Mum, Claire, at a wedding I shot in the autumn, and she was just mesmerised by the lights when the guy set up the disco after the meal. I love the picture, and with Claire's permission, have had it printed on canvas, a metre and a half wide, for my exhibition, which starts next month. It'll be hung right opposite the door - you won't be able to miss it!

gorgeous
Isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderful? Isn't she precious? We have been heaven blessed... (courtesy of Stevie Wonder, who puts it so very well!) This is Imogen, a smiley delight, the star of last weekend's 4 generation family portrait shoot. I'm finding myself singing away just looking at her!

olivia
Emma and Allison came to visit yesterday - both bringing their baby daughters, both of whom I’ve photographed this year. They’re growing - what a difference a few months makes! Olivia, here, is wearing a gorgeous creation, knitted by her grandmother, and looking absolutely CAPtivating (see what I did there??!!)). We sorted out some photo-books I’ve designed from their earlier shoots, which will make great - and totally unique - Christmas presents. Lovely!

joshua
Great shoot today, with Joshua, his mum and her dad. We did some indoor shots, which were lovely, but had most fun outside by the water. Many ducks were fed, and many mushy leaves were inspected and waggled about in the water - a very busy and productive morning.

sepia and pink
Family photography with babies is such a pleasure, and the images capture a moment in that family's life forever. These pictures (with others) have just gone into a lovely little album, tied with a satin ribbon, for grandma in Ireland to open on Christmas morning. Aaaah!

Liverpool’s Radio City 96.7 teamed up with the Learning and Skills Council to support its campaign to celebrate and reward outstanding achievements in the workplace, which links with the Skills Pledge commitment by Merseyside employers.
The station ran a two month campaign to encourage listeners from all over the region to audition for a chance to perform at allstarsmerseyside at the Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre on 5th February 2010 - last night.
The successful applicants were provided with top quality mentoring and guidance from Radio City’s own broadcasters in preparation for

How's this for a different portrait for the wall? Framed in acrylic, it really glows. It seems to light up the hallway as soon as you come through the door - just fabulous! This cool dude wasn't too sure that photographer would fit into his busy day when I arrived for the family's shoot, but he's more than pleased with the result - despite having never heard of Andy Warhol. Mind you, Mum and Dad also have the other pictures in an album, so this won't be the only memento of the day.

fun and games
A family photoshoot in Manchester City Centre - a sunny day, with lots to see and climb on - great fun. And when you're a kid having fun, you haven't got time to be distracted by a woman with a camera - you just get on with the fun! Having meandered through Castlefield and along the canals around Deansgate, we popped up by the Bridgewater Hall, where there's a great big marble stone. Quite a challenge for a 10 year old to get onto - and then to stay on - given that it's as smooth as glass, and your brother is literally pulling your leg!

shopgirl
I had a wonderful day this week photographing St Ann's Hospice's charity shops - staff, stock and customers. The shops are well laid out, with helpful staff, and many, many surprises to be found in the stock. They have some great pre-loved items for sale, but also a lot of new things - from jewellery to handbags to wedding dresses, donated by designers and manufacturers who know and admire St Ann's work.

the little bridesmaid
Nanw's Mum, Sioned, is a very talented florist. She provided the stunning flowers for the mock wedding shoot last weekend at Neuadd Lwydd, a beautiful country house hotel on Anglesey. Nanw had been bridesmaid at a family wedding a few weeks before, and had loved her dress and really enjoyed the occasion, so I suggested she might like to get the dress on and join in. She was an absolute star!

speed merchant
I'm spending a long weekend in Guernsey with my family. I really like this little island, 11 miles across at its widest point, with a wonderful coastline, and lots of meandering lanes. It's very different to my usual location in the centre of a busy city. Today my brother and I watched the sunrise over Jersey from the SE tip of the island, before walking along the cliff path and down to a deserted bay. After breakfast we all set off for the cross country races on the west coast; both of my nephews had entered.

look into my eyes
Here's a little girl I photographed last month, called Sophie. She'd just woken up and was giving me a good looking over, balanced on the sofa in the late afternoon sunshine. I'm just putting together the album of her shoot, which I really enjoyed.
Great, then, to talk with new portrait clients this morning about their two little daughters, 18 months and 3 years. Sounds like pink features prominently in the girls’ outfits, with fairy wings and sparkly shoes! Can't wait!

fascinating feet
Here is baby Joseph, entranced by his feet. Well, of course he is - they're pretty new to him... as is just about everything, come to think of it! He and his Mum visited the (nicely cosy and warm) studio for a couple of hours of group admiration of all his fascinating, wonderful and gorgeous features. (Loved that MANC t'shirt.) Fun for us all!

ben and martha
Ben and Martha are all of ten weeks old, though Ben has a minute on his sister. They’re already quite distinct little characters - Ben being very much the more placid one. I arrived just before the babies woke for their mid-morning feed, and had a cup of tea and a chat with Julie and Carl - both hands-on parents and a great team - while we checked out light and location options.

white dress
What a lovely white dress! We got some great pictures on this shoot, and that dress, and Mum and Dad's white tops in that big, airy, bright apartment with its huge windows worked so well. It will come as no surprise that the white didn't stay quite so white for long; so we had a cup of tea and a change of clothes and went out into the sunshine for a different feel - and more smiles!
