a great day out

Emma and Gareth will get married in June in Knutsford, so we had a trip out there a few days ago for their pre-wedding shoot. This was help us get to know each other - and the camera - a bit better before the wedding day. We met near the church for a coffee before their shoot.  It went really well, not least because they’re a totally gorgeous pair, but also because  it was the first bright, sunny day in two weeks - we’d thought we’d have to contend with rain and a howling wind, but it was really lovely.

Dave and Ros were married  in Lambeth Town Hall, and on the way there we stopped in the doorway of an old church for a few pictures.  Ros particularly wanted a photograph of her three daughters and Dave's son together, and we got an absolute cracker. However, this is the one that ended up on the wall in a big, beautiful frame. It makes me smile every time .

the barefoot bride

Emma and Gareth married at St Cross Church in Knutsford last Saturday; the same church in which Emma’s grandmother was married, and her Mum christened. They both, along with Gareth’s Dad, gave readings. It was emotional! Emma’s dress, by Paris trained designer Sharon Bowen, was blazingly beautiful...much like Emma.  To complement it, she chose some delicate jewelled sandals.  It was a bit of a disappointment to find them snagging in the hem of the dress.

wedding shoes

Back from honeymoon, Emma and Gareth came to the studio to see their wedding pictures, and my designs for their album. It was a lovely few hours; champagne, tears and laughter. Emma was the Barefoot Bride in an earlier entry...shoes were a bit of a motif that day , so I've designed an album page to showcase them. Another example of every album being so different!

claire's dress

The sun came out for Claire and Tom’s wedding - it was grey and windy the day before, and not so good the day after.  Perhaps some prayers were being answered there - well done guys! It was a spectacular event - the ceremony was held at Boughton Monchelsea Place in Kent, in an Elizabethan manor house with spectacular views over the countryside. Mind you, the bride was the most breathtaking sight of the day. After a difficult start to the morning (power cut in the entire area) she took a deep breath and wow - she was absolutely radiant. And what a dress...

wedding album

Here's a silk-covered time capsule, which arrived today all the way from Queensberry in New Zealand. I'm always anxious when I open the box - or boxes, as there's usually more than one album in the order - even though Queensberry have never let me down.

what a beauty

I'm posting these pictures of Emma and Gareth's wedding album because I've just been reminiscing about the wedding day with the bride, Emma, who called by the studio yesterday for a chat, to tell me they're expecting a baby in the summer. I just wonder whether he (yes!) might arrive on their first  anniversary, the summer solstice, which is already a doubly special day for them, and make it a triple treat. We'll see... Emma and Gareth wanted an album to cherish and to show their grandchildren, and that is what they have.

the little bridesmaid

Nanw's Mum, Sioned, is a very talented florist. She provided the stunning flowers for the mock wedding shoot last weekend at Neuadd Lwydd, a beautiful country house hotel on Anglesey. Nanw had been bridesmaid at a family wedding a few weeks before, and had loved her dress and really enjoyed the occasion, so I suggested she might like to get the dress on and join in. She was an absolute star!

SO happy!

Sunday in Castlefield was just lovely. The annual Manchester Day Parade was going on close by, so there was lots of bustling and music and some great costumes all around. Dukes'92 and Albert's Shed were both absolutely buzzing, including the courtyard, which was full of people enjoying the sunshine. In the midst of all of this activity, and after being together for ten years, Karen and Ben got married, surrounded by their friends and family, and with the help of the amazing Dukes team.

love among the rust

Karen and Ben's wedding: at Duke's '92 in Castlefield, on a beautiful day, with wall-to-wall smiles, and more than a few happy tears. Ben nearly lost his voice as he said the words he'd prepared to explain what he felt about them and their commitment. Karen was serene and heartfelt as she did the same, in a loving roomful of their family and friends. We took a few minutes to cross the little bridge and take some shots afterwards, celebrating their day and their happiness. Trains and trams rumbled overhead; inquisitive geese examined us for signs of sandwiches.

Laura getting ready...

Well...Mrs H is now in Mauritius with her new husband, both still (they say in todays text), on Cloud 9. Me too! And Mark (and it WASN'T just the Ferrari, he swears - and they both SO know it wasn't!). It was an utterly beautiful day...about which I've promised them I'll blog a little. So here goes...

yes, it's a Ferrari

The Haughin wedding: part 2. This wedding involved a lot of lovely things. One of them was red. It had Neil's initials as the numberplate (how did he/they DO that?) and it was drop-dead-gorgeous. Mark Rawlings very kindly came up from London to second-shoot this fabulous wedding with me: who'd have thought one man could take so many pictures of one car, eh, Mark?

blue diamond

I just LOVE the rings. That blue diamond of Neils is exceptional, and the glitter and sparkle of Laura's gorgeous wedding ring is - well - swoon - words aren't enough! Second-shooter Mark and I arrived at the best man's house promptly. We knew we were in the right place by the sound (1st) of the Ferrari and then the sight (2nd) of it shimmering outside the door. Exhale.

the princess bride

Posted on Friday, August 12, 2011, Posted in manchester, portrait, wedding
Neil arrived at St James's Church with best man Dave in a Ferrari Spyder; Laura arrived with her Dad in a vintage Daimler, at a rather more stately pace. The dress was astonishing: a perfect fairytale, fitted above, floating from the waist down like a proper princess dress. The bouquet? Stunning in every respect - from roses, to arums, to ivy, to berries. As she got out of the car, the bells were pealing out. I was in position inside the church, at the front looking back towards the door, listening to the organist playing as people took their seats.

the youngest guest

A baby is such a precious wee thing at any time; this tiny baby came rather worryingly earlier than planned into the world...but she's fine now, and SO loved. Gracie won't remember being the youngest guest at her Aunt Laura's wedding, but everyone else who was there will, I expect. And of course, Aunt Laura will have quite a few photographs to show her niece the story of the day...
